Welcome to Tales From The Thrift: Volume 4! Though things have been a bit busy lately, I did manage to squeeze in a little time to go thrifting. This isn’t my biggest haul, but I did find some gems at great prices. From Universal Monsters to Masters of the Universe, this is going to be one eclectic entry–just the way I like it!
For those who missed the first entries of this series, or just want to know what it’s all about, please take a look at the previous installments.
Note: prices will be rounded up to the nearest dollar.
A lot of people seem to have trouble finding good deals at antique malls. Sometimes the sellers are just asking for too much money, and sometimes it’s tough to find things you actually want. Luckily for me, the Plano Mall of Antiques has been good to me every time that I’ve been there! This time around, I scored three very cool toys at great prices. My favorite of these is the Creature From The Black Lagoon from the Living Dead Dolls line. This particular item came out to $13, and I would have easily paid three times that amount. As a huge fan of The Creature, there was no way I could pass this up. This is definitely staying in my collection.
Next, I was able to find two figures from the Masters Of The Universe Classics line: Gwildor and Eldor. These were $5 apiece, a great price for these particular figures. Although I am a He-Man fan (and a fan of this line in general), these will probably be added to the sell pile. They are certainly cool, but I think someone out there will get more enjoyment out of them.
Between the Plano Mall of Antiques, Movie Trading Company, a Salvation Army store, and Half-Price Books, I managed to find some great tapes. Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman was purchased at the antique mall for $1 (with the plastic still on it). Movie Trading Company had Godzilla Versus Mothra, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Green With Evil Part 2, The Invisible Man, and an Exo Squad tape, all for $1 apiece. At the Salvation Army store, I picked up Transformers: The Movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie (to replace my copy that recently broke), and Halloween (the “Blockbuster Presents” version), again for $1 apiece. At Half-Price Books, I bought Star Wars: Droids – The Pirates and the Prince and Doctor Who: The Ark In Space for $2 each. A little higher than others, but I just couldn’t pass these up. As of now, most of these are staying in my collection, though a few may be traded.
Note: Rather than rounding up each tape, I am going to round up the total from each store, which should be a bit more accurate. Total spent on tapes: $16
At a different Movie Trading Company, I managed to find a couple of NES games for a reasonable price. Ikari Warriors was $9, and will be staying in my collection. Somehow, I’ve never played it, but now I can! Karate Champ was $5, and will be sold along with the NES I acquired in a previous edition of Tales From The Thrift.
Total spent: $53
I haven’t had a chance to sell again just yet, but that should be changing soon! I plan to list items this weekend, which should drastically improve my current running total.
Stay tuned for updates, new finds, and more Tales From The Thrift!
